Municipal websites present a unique challenge as they often need to provide an abundance of information to a large variety of audiences in an organized and easy to find manner.
The Village of Pemberton's website was dated and cluttered featuring a myriad of content hidden under too many levels of navigation. It was difficult for constituents to navigate and find useful information. Based on the constituents current issues, we were able to identify a clear direction for designing a replacement website - simplify and modernize.
Understanding that the audience for this website was purely focussed on residents of the Village, we reclassified content into 4 categories ( Living, Government, Departments, and Contact ) and worked with the Village to reduce the site content down to three levels of navigation. The most used and searched content was given prominent placement on the homepage. The importance of site content was determined based on Google analytics and site search data. We also removed redundant tourism content that already lived on the villages independent tourism focused website and provide a link to this website from the home page for non-residents. This allowed us to create a more streamlined user experience for locals with an updated responsive layout prioritizing information they frequented.
